(Dextrose monohydrate, saccharin sodium, vanillin)
DOSAGE FORM: Powder for oral suspension.
PRESENTATION: Box of 24 sachets x 3.8 g.
ACTIONS: Diosmectite, the main active ingredient of Hamett, is a natural double aluminium and magnesium silicate. Diosmectite, by its sheet structure and its high plastic viscosity, has an important covering power of the digestive mucosa. Diosmectite, by interacting with mucus glycoproteins, increases the resistance of adherent mucous gel to attackers. Diosmectite, by its action on the digestive mucosal barrier and its high fixation capacity, protects the digestive mucosa. Diosmectite is able to absorb bacterial toxins in the intestine but also bind to other drugs, including trimethoprim and tetracycline to inactivate their effects or lower their absorption (these antibiotics are sometimes prescribed to treat diarrhea). Diosmectite is radio-transparent, does not stain the stools, and at the usual doses, does not modify the physiological intestinal transit time.
Diosmectite is not absorbed into blood by the gastrointestinal tract and is completely eliminated in the faeces.
INDICATIONS: Treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea in adults and children after being rehydrated fluids and electrolytes, but their diarrhea conditions still exist.
Treatment of symptoms associated with oesophago-gastroduodenal and colonic diseases.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to any components of the drug.
Do not use Hamett to treat acute diarrhea associated to severe dehydration and unbalanced electrolytes in children.

The importance of rehydration by oral rehydration or intravenous rehydration should be adjusted according to the intensity of the diarrhea, the age and the particularities of the patient.
